Welcome to St Johns

I am proud to be the Acting Headteacher caring for St Johns Community, whilst Mr Smith is on secondment with Oxfordshire Education Authority.

Our School Vision:

We aspire for all -children and adults- to grow as children of God, to be the best they can be. We want all to have respect for themselves and each other, along with a wonder and curiosity for God’s creation.

‘They will lift up their wings and soar like eagles’ Isaiah 40:31          ‘…embracing life in all its fullness.’ John 10:10

Our vision reflects the ambition of the school community to care for others and achieve excellence. Our school emblem is the golden eagle; we believe it is our collective responsibility to give all the children of St Johns the wings to fly and inspire them to rise and soar higher than they ever thought possible.

Our School Vision was created through collaboration- All stakeholders have had input into the concept, refinement, and its creation. Pupils, Parents, Staff, and Leadership value the school eagle as a visualisation of the high aspirations held for all members of the school community.

Our aspirations for ‘individuals to grow as children of God’ is not only for members of the school community but also the wider community by supporting individuals to be the best they can be. Our vision refers to ‘children of God’. This is a purposeful decision. As a Church School we embrace Christianity. As the hub of Shilton Park Community, we welcome and are inclusive of all its members and believe that the school’s vision is inclusive for all beliefs. The children and adults often refer to being the family of St Johns, all individuals working together in unity to be the best that we can be.

Our vision instils a respect for self and each other which drives a want to care for everyone through service. Our pupils develop an interest in being conduits for change. The building blocks of our curriculum give pupils the opportunity to become aware of both local and global issues. The school values, embedded throughout school life, give pupils a moral compass for critical thinking, informative discussion, and the ability to make judgments. They are inspired to act when they recognise the need for change.

Our aim is to foster Intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development. We feel it is important for the children to be inspired by possibilities and experiences beyond their everyday. Opened to them through hard work, self-belief and resilience. To develop curiosity and a wonder for the world. We want our children to confidently communicate with other people developing a sense of citizenship for the school and the wider community.

We aspire to support and develop learners with the skills to achieve success through excellence. Throughout this process we support, build, and develop far reaching relationships across the community. St Johns offers many levels of care through social engagement. The individuals who are part of this wider community recognise St Johns School as a place where all are given the skills to fly - wings, the courage to develop independence and responsibility – rise, and achieve their own excellence – soar – higher than they ever thought possible.
